Laos, Luang Prabang: To Market, to Market!

One of the most colorful features of modern Luang Prabang is its markets. In the main bazaar, fragrant fresh produce is sold alongside myriads of dried fish snacks and some meatier fare, from frogs to the indescribable rodents pictured here. The furry ratlike creature, tied by its leg and awaiting its inevitable fate, decided to enjoy its last meal--a plantain. Meanwhile, its fellow sufferer had already passed into the new phase of its existence and was awaiting reincarnation as something less carnal.

Any guesses as to what these beasts are called are much appreciated.

And there, my amazing Southeast Asian trip came to an end!
